Auburn Police arrest four on multiple charges
December 12 2024Auburn, Ala. - On Dec. 9, 2024, Auburn Police Department (APD) arrested Shockey Jerrell Smarr, age 36, from Loachapoka, Alabama, Da'Michael Octavious Dowdell, age 25, from Tuskegee, Alabama, William Eugene Bufford, age 32, from Opelika, Alabama, and a 16-year-old juvenile from Tuskegee, Alabama.
Smarr was charged with nine counts of illegal possession credit/debit card, Dowdell was charged with illegal possession credit/debit card and receiving stolen property fourth degree, Bufford was charged with illegal possession credit/debit card, and the 16-year-old juvenile was charged with unlawful breaking and entering into a vehicle and theft of property second degree.
The arrest stems from Auburn Police responding to a residence located in the 1200 block of South College Street on Dec. 9, in reference to a disorderly persons call. Responding officers made contact with multiple subjects inside the residence and observed evidence of illegal activity.
APD detectives responded and obtained a search warrant for the residence. Multiple stolen debit/credit cards, and other stolen property was recovered. All of the stolen items were taken during auto burglaries that occurred in Auburn since the beginning of Dec. 2024.
Smarr, Dowdell, Bufford and the 16-year-old juvenile were arrested for charges associated with the stolen property and auto burglaries. This case remains under investigation with the possibility of additional arrests and charges.
Smarr ($13,500 bond), Dowdell ($2,500 bond) and Bufford ($1,500 bond) were transported to the Lee County Jail and held on bond. The 16-year-old juvenile was transported to the Lee County Youth Development Center and to be held pending further judicial review.
